All credit must go to Naylor Love for overcoming these challenges and working incredibly hard to hit the milestone dates…The project has been a truly collaborative partnership from the start and has worked incredibly well.

Mitre 10 Mega store built on a fast-track programme in less than a year.

Having outgrown their old Remarkables Park store, the new Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown was in the planning stages for 10 years. But once construction was under way it was completed by Naylor Love’s Central Otago team in less than one year, and Mitre 10 Mega is now one of Queenstown’s largest single retail spaces. The overall floor space is in excess of 8,000m², and holds three times the product range of the old store.

The store incorporates a large format retail space with a drive-through facility, garden centre, café, service yard and expansive office space located on a mezzanine level.

We worked closely with the client and assisted the consultant team to develop and refine the design, which wasn’t finalised until building was under way in this fast-track project.

Some tough challenges presented themselves from the outset – ground issues and design changes to accommodate new building codes added around six weeks of work to the already tight programme. Then we endured on of the harshest Central Otago winters in years while the massive post-tensioned concrete slab was being poured, with heavy snowfall and temperatures dipping to -14°C.

Careful planning and some very hard work allowed the Naylor Love team to tailor our construction programme to allow the delighted client access ten weeks ahead of the official handover, allowing store staff to prepare the store for a pre-Christmas opening.
