Built with precision, attention to detail and a focus on acoustic perfection.

Our Music, Theatre and Performing Arts Centre project at the University of Otago had two distinct stages; Stage 1 was the construction of a new Recording Studio and partial rebuild of the Music Suite, and Stage 2 was the refurbishment of the adjacent Teaching Wing & Tower Block.

The Recording Studio is the School of Performing Art’s star attraction. It houses a live studio with enough space for a full orchestra, three control rooms, two percussion rooms, four practice booths and social spaces.

Prominent design features include a floating concrete floor to eliminate vibration, three layers of GIB Noiseline, and over 900 acoustic boxes featuring multiple different compositions and a variety of colours.

The Music Suite was a partial new build and refurbishment which now connects the Recording Studio to the Teaching Wing. It has a dance studio, five teaching/practice rooms and a guitar lab.

Stage 2 of the project, the refurbishment of the Teaching Wing and Tower Block, included a full-services upgrade, seismic strengthening and localised refurbishment.

The space is proving to be enormously popular with the client, particularly the studio manager and students.
