The Naylor Love Canterbury team completed a series of extensive earthquake repairs at Burwood Hospital over almost three years, including repairs, interior fitouts and upgrades to over 35 different buildings and zones.
The work included strengthening of concrete floor slabs and the commercial kitchen, conversion of wards to office space, patching and painting of internal ward and administration areas, removal of heavy-weight ceilings and replacement with Gib diaphragms, plant room upgrades & strengthening, the re-cladding and interior refurbishment of the chapel building, and the interior fit out of the old surgical block.
The hospital remained fully operational throughout the works, so effective communication with CDHB staff was key to the success of the project. Dust and noise needed to be managed carefully to ensure that the patients were kept safe and comfortable, and we also developed strict hygiene and infection control procedures on site.
