New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) decided to upgrade their old soldiers’ barracks to a more modern and comfortable living environment across the entire five blocks of the Messines Barracks building at Trentham Camp. We renovated 42 bedrooms, five bathrooms and three corridors on each of the three floors, with new ceilings, wall linings, flooring and services.

This was the first major refurbishment of the building since it was built around 40 years ago, so there were some unforeseen issues over the course of the project. We dealt with these efficiently as they came up, eventually completing around 40% more work than expected but still meeting the original completion date and maintaining immaculate quality standards.

The Naylor Love Wellington team developed a great relationship with NZDF, who were delighted with the completed project.
