New World Te Rapa is one of two modern flagship stores for Foodstuffs in Hamilton, which due to its size and reputation has high customer numbers.

This project involved extensive refurbishment of the interior of the store, including checkout replacements, a new Lotto/café area, new Fly Buys counter and checkout control, as well as extensive revamp of the liquor, butchery, bakery and produce areas. The exterior store signage was also replaced.

The store remained open throughout, so one of the challenges was to complete the work while maintaining a positive shopping experience for customers. We achieved this effectively through innovative use of hoardings and strong management of the multiple workfaces.

A few long nights were involved for work that could not be completed during opening hours, including the removal and replacement of all 17 checkouts, with cabinetry installers, electricians and data installation team all working side-by-side. This went without a hitch and the checkouts were all ready by the morning, much to the satisfaction of both the store operator and Foodstuffs.

The result was the successful delivery of a rejuvenated store to a happy operator and client, reinforcing the strong ongoing Naylor Love/Foodstuffs relationship.
