Having completed the International Terminal Extension in 2004 and the Airport Carpark Building in 2007, we were pleased to be returning to Christchurch International Airport to build the Spitfire Square retail development.

With approximately 6,000m² of floor space over four buildings, including a 2,700m² Countdown supermarket, this major new retail development is the only shopping centre in the immediate vicinity of Christchurch International Airport. As well as the supermarket, there are 15 retail outlets and a restaurant, plus 345 car parks.

The external envelope consisted of painted precast panels, shopfront glazed units, painted fibre cement sheet and some decorative timber finishes, with roofing predominantly Kingspan insulated panel and membrane roof material over plywood substrate in the flat roof areas. We completed a full fitout of the Countdown supermarket, with remainder of the tenancies shell-only.

This project was successfully completed to a tight timeframe, all while incorporating client changes to accommodate end user needs.

Client: Christchurch International Airport Ltd
Completed: August 2015
