PEF bin trial
Our Hillmorton Hospital team (led by the fantastic Jenya) have been doing a stellar job of waste and recycling segregation at the source.
Environmental Manager Emma Williamson counted 15 different skips for recycling materials on site last week and she is sure she missed a few!
They are also trialling a new service from Enviro NZ, a PEF bin. Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF) is made of plastics that are unable to be reused or recycled. Instead of sending them to landfill, Enviro NZ shreds, blends and bales the plastics into PEF, creating fuel for industrial cement kilns as an alternative to imported coal.
It’s early days – you can see our PEF bin signage evolving as we learn and adapt – but we’re excited about this service as an alternative to landfill as recycling options continue to develop in Aotearoa New Zealand.
