Environmental Team profiles: Grant
Introducing our Welington Environmental Manager, Grant.
For Grant Hawthorne, improving sustainability outcomes starts well before a shovel hits the ground. Working closely with our Wellington Digital team, he’s using BIM to work out how to design out waste from the outset. The goal is to identify efficiencies early in the design phase rather than reacting to waste on site, using digital tools to challenge assumptions and refine how we use materials.
A study Grant is working on with BIM Manager Michael De Fazio and Project Manager Matt Turnbull is demonstrating what’s possible, with the team close to testing their design on site. Supercharged by generous funding from the Wellington City Council Waste Minimisation Fund, this study has the potential to drive efficient, sustainable building solutions throughout the industry.
It’s a shift towards more modern, smarter ways of working, where digital capability and environmental thinking go hand in hand.
Just as importantly, it’s about bringing people along on that journey. By building strong relationships and occasionally jumping into a skip and getting his hands dirty, Grant is helping to make sustainability a natural part of how we deliver projects.
