Investing in People & Communities
We continue to focus on investing in the people and communities we work in, and Vaiora is a great example of what that looks like in action on our Te Puna Hapori project.
Just 19 years old and from Whanganui, Vaiora is gaining valuable, hands-on experience in construction while contributing to a project that is significant for his own community. He first joined the team at 17 as a Gateman and quickly showed an eagerness to learn and take on more responsibility.
Since then, he has continued to build his skills, earning his Telehandler Operator License and stepping into a broader role on site. Today, Vaiora oversees the ground floor and external areas, managing them through health and safety observations. He has grown in confidence working alongside subcontractors and regularly carries out Cupix walks.
Day-to-day, he operates the telehandler, supports maintenance on the ground floor, manages external cleaning, and sets up exclusion zones. Through his work with both the team and subcontractors, Vaiora plays an important role in keeping the site running smoothly while continuing to develop his experience.
We’re committed to hiring locally wherever possible, recognising the value of creating opportunities within the communities we work in. Watching Vaiora grow in confidence and capability has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does next.
