Otago Peninsula planting day
Our Dunedin team spent the day helping Save the Otago Peninsula (STOP) plant native trees alongside a local waterway.
They were lucky to have such lovely weather for their company volunteer day, even though the forecast looked a bit iffy – and promptly turned to rubbish for the rest of the week!
The Otago Peninsula was covered in native vegetation before it was cleared for farming and settlement. The Smiths Creek Catchment planting began in 2012, with around 17,000 trees planted over the last 14 years. Positive outcomes include an improved stream health, a reduction in severity of flood and better conditions for native wildlife, including whitebait species.
