Future-focused school rebuild of Dunedin’s oldest primary school.
Naylor Love is proud to have served as the main contractor on the redevelopment of Arthur Street School, Dunedin’s oldest primary school. We built a two-storey administration and teaching block with 10 classrooms plus an adjoining single-storey hall and library. The 16-month main build was complete in March 2024, but we remained on site until January 2025 to complete an extensive demolition and landscaping package.
The redevelopment project involved a multi-stage approach to ensure the school could continue operating in temporary classrooms throughout construction. We hosted a number of events for the school community, involving them in the project and reassuring them that the end to their eight-year rebuild journey was in sight!
Our team worked closely with the Ministry of Education, Arthur Street School, project managers The Building Intelligence Group and Ignite Architects to bring the school’s vision to life. By collaborating with key stakeholders and maintaining a strong focus on quality and efficiency, we ensured the project met both historical preservation and future focused development goals. The result is a revitalised school that blends tradition with contemporary design, securing its place for generations to come.
