Extensive passive fire upgrades in a critical live environment.
We completed a series of passive fire upgrades at Chorus’ Courtenay Place Exchange (CPC), all in a live environment housing infrastructure critical to the data and telecommunications network in the Wellington region.
Works included replacing 82 fire doors, building new smoke lobbies and rebuilding existing walls, upgrading every passive fire penetration in the building, and facilitating the Code Compliance Certification and Building Warrant of Fitness process for the client.
We compressed an 18-month programme into 8 months to ensure the client met their milestone, strategically planning and sequencing the work to maintain emergency egress and fire protection so the building could remain occupied throughout. We even managed to maintain the programme when asbestos was discovered, identifying and safely removing significant areas of contamination while minimising disruption to the building users.
A comprehensive dust mitigation plan, carefully developed and followed to the letter, allowed us successfully complete building works in areas holding sensitive equipment.
