A complex and fragmented contract spread over three Christchurch prisons.

Our two-year rapid deployment project was a complex and fragmented contract spread over three prisons – Christchurch Men’s, Christchurch Women’s and Rolleston. The 18 separable portions were all to support the increased prison muster from the installation of modular cell blocks by another contractor.

The infrastructure upgrades we completed included high voltage design & builds with a new underground network and transformer facilities, generators, design & build of LPG tanks and compounds, foundations for the modular buildings, fire sprinkler upgrades, fire software upgrades, water systems and highway works.

Building works included upgrades to existing kitchens, gatehouses and custodial areas, as well as new builds for amenities, entries/ gatehouses, secure walkways, custodial fencing, carparks and access roads. We planned and executed a number of temporary works buildings and utilities/services as part of these works.

We prioritised meticulous planning during the pre-construction period, then ensured that we maintained open communication with the other contractors on site, the consultants and Corrections throughout the project. Quality and programme were the major drivers for the client, who needed the areas we were working on to be ready to use to immovable deadlines. We were pleased to hand over all 18 parts of this major project to the client right on time.
