Holiday Inn Express & Suites is a new 4 star, 227-room hotel located on a 4,000m2 site in the heart of Queenstown. We completed the project under a under NZS 3916:2013 Design and Build contract, with Naylor Love employing all of the major design consultants, including Architecture, Structure, Civil, Interior Design & Services. Delivery of the project was aided by utilisation of our in-house Architectural BIM Specialist, Structural & Services Engineers, and our consulting Façade Engineer peer reviewers.
The hotel is made up of three adjoining structures totalling 13,500m2. It is terraced up the natural contour at the base of Queenstown Hill and stands a total of five stories in height. The structure comprises of a series of insitu concrete floors and walls, together with pre-cast concrete elements, connected and cantilevered to a series of structural steel moment frames.
The façade aesthetic is designed to replicate the historic Queenstown glacier in the Wakatipu basin. The building is made up of a series of abstract “erratic” cantilevered boxes, protruding from the building’s main frame, and clad in the highest quality aluminium façade rain screens over two weatherproofing substrates. A combination of metal profiled Tarc Tray and mild steel panels complete the bold exterior of this prominent structure.
Internally there are two lift cores and a 600m² Great Room that can host up to 200 guests. The spaces are complete with commercial kitchens, a buffet, drying room, gym, car parking, sauna and conference facilities.
“It has been a very rewarding project and we are very proud to see the high-quality design and construction of the finished hotel come together.”
