ECI leads to a smooth-running build in troubled times.
The Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park is a full service, 4-star hotel with 182 rooms, a restaurant and conference facilities. The 9,500m², five-storey plus basement building is the first ‘open lobby’ hotel in New Zealand, with a flexible, open space on the ground floor.
We contributed to the project under an ECI agreement, with our advice around methodology and supply chain risks ensuring that the project proceeded smoothly. Our proposal to change from precast to in-situ panels for the basement walls avoided panel supply issues, and our suggestion to start the site preparation as an early works contract reduced the overall construction period.
The contract for the build was negotiated on an open book basis. Communication between all parties was open and constructive, enabling swift decisions to be made to maximise productivity on site. We took care to ensure that long-lead items were let early, providing certainty so our specialist subcontractors could order their materials and get under way. This was of particular benefit with the extensive curtain walling package.
We handed the rooms over defect free before practical completion and completed the entire project to the highest quality standards and on programme, despite all the challenges of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The client is delighted with their new flagship hotel, and with the way Naylor Love went above and beyond to exceed expectations.
