Huia Pool refurbishment

We completed a comprehensive refurbishment of Huia Pool’s main pool, children’s pools and spas, including improving the energy efficiency of the building services throughout the complex.

We were working alongside the client’s specialist contractor, who were engaged to fit the new pool liner, channel drain and hydraulic pool deck. Our scope included demolition works, upgrading the pool water and mechanical ventilation systems, replacing the gas boilers with low emissions electric systems, refurbishing the spa area and building a new sauna, and resurfacing the concourse and changing room floors with a resin surface.

We were involved in the project from on an ECI basis, with our expert services team working with the consultants to confirm that the systems were the right fit for the client’s needs, then securing the long lead mechanical plant.

Unfortunately the separate contractor faced significant shipping delays on custom materials ordered from overseas, some of which had a significant interface with our scope. We monitored their programme and re-sequenced as necessary to limit the programme impact. We also proposed alternative methodologies to complete the interfacing works as far as practicable, allowing us to get the new sauna open to the public while the final touches were still being added to the pools.
