High level of trust built on responsive programming and on-time delivery.
We completed a comprehensive renovation and refurbishment of all 200 rooms in the City Wing at the James Cook Hotel, including new bathrooms, floor coverings, furniture and paint. We staged the work to minimise disruption to the hotel staff and guests, working on 3-4 floors at a time. We also redecorated the restaurant, upgraded the staff changing room, replaced the staircase façade and built a new conference space with state-of-the-art lighting and operable walls.
The project grew as we developed a strong relationship with the hotel management and their offshore parent company, with our site team coordinating the works with the hotel’s requirements and committing to on-time (or earlier!) handovers, often requiring out of hours and weekend work. The Covid pandemic saw the hotel fluctuate between completely full and almost completely empty, with our team adjusting the programme to suit, even demobilising from the site for extended periods during the six-year project before returning to re-start the work.
Additional works included a major master switchboard replacement and a new curtain wall system on the link bridge spanning 10 floors of the building connecting the lift tower to the City Wing. We also upgraded the roof-plant area, re-laid the roof membrane and re-clad the roof penthouse apartments.
Our site team managed an excellent waste diversion rate, including two tonnes of window glass recycled in a pioneering initiative that has since been replicated on our other sites.
