Temporary bridge maintains access while we build a replacement.
Our Dunedin Projects & Interiors team replaced an elderly single-lane bridge, installing a temporary bridge to maintain vehicle access for the businesses across the Kaikorai Stream while installing the permanent structure, which is 3 metres longer and 5 metres wider than the original.
Completed on a constrained site and alongside multiple live services, including power, data, water and foul water drainage, the project required careful staging and strong coordination across all stakeholders. The position of the new precast beams was integral, as 11kva cables were fed through the middle and restricted by height and bend radius.
Temporary works were central to the programme, enabling heavy vehicle access and live services to be maintained while we built the new bridge. Our team was involved in in the planning of the temporary works, including ground condition assessments for cranes and bridges, temporary foundation work and scaffold loading requirements.
We carefully managed the stream environment at every stage through sequencing, erosion and sediment controls, and disciplined site management.
Success on this project was driven by detailed pre-construction planning, proactive coordination with service authorities, and a staged construction methodology. The project demonstrates our team’s ability to deliver complex civil works through strong planning, practical methodology, and disciplined management of access, services and environmental risk.
