Seamless extension to a Wellington special needs school.

Kimi Ora School is a special needs school for students aged from five to 21 years from the Wellington region. We extended their Naenae base school in 2018, giving the growing team of staff and students much-needed teaching, meeting and resource spaces.

The main part of the project was the addition of a new classroom, an exact replica of the four existing classrooms at the school, plus extensions to meeting and resource rooms. With the school still open during construction, noise and dust were carefully managed minimise disturbance.

Much of the disruptive work was programmed to take place during the school’s mid-year break. In this two-week period our hardworking site team managed to break through and connect the new classroom to the existing school, pre-wiring, lining all the walls, plastering, painting and getting all the services live ready for the school to use once they returned.
