Complex earthquake remediation and roof replacement project.

The Ministry of Education engaged Naylor Love to undertake remediation work to a four-level classroom block at Christchurch Girls’ High School. This challenging build took place within a live school environment, with Naylor Love working closely with the school and Ministry of Education to successfully minimise disruption and ensure the safety of staff and students.

The complex roof replacement involved demolition of the existing roof structure and installation of LVL timber framing, a ply diaphragm and warm roof system. A robust methodology was required for the diaphragm roof structure. Naylor Love successfully maintained the weathertightness of the building during the roof replacement, including keeping the temporary roof in good order.

Structural elements included steel to the roof framing, fibre-reinforced plastic to the floors, wall to floor concrete connections and seismic restraint to the existing walls. The existing lift and lift pit were upgraded, as well as new fire, electrical, mechanical and data services.

The completed refurbishment includes new ceilings, floor coverings, walls, balcony linings, and amenities.
