Hotel refurbishment grows in scope and complexity.
Originally scoped as an upgrade of 45 hotel bathrooms on one level of the four-star Millennium Hotel Queenstown, this project evolved significantly to include remediation and maintenance work in 56 rooms across additional floors, plus the full refurbishment of 18 executive suites.
The bathroom upgrades involved core drilling for new services, building new walls, and the installation of all new fixtures and fittings. We carefully scanned the existing floor slabs to pinpoint the optimal locations for the new service penetrations while maintaining structural integrity.
The additional scope came after we discovered mould and identified the need for passive fire upgrades and reinforcement of structural elements, including steel and timber beams and trusses. We delivered this portion of the work as a separate stage, collaborating closely with the client and consultant team as the design was adapted to accommodate the site conditions and meticulously documenting the work.
To add to the complexity, we were working in a fully operational hotel for far longer than initially anticipated and over a wider area of the building. We carefully planned the work to minimise disruption to hotel guests and staff throughout the 14-month project.
Adaptability and an unwavering commitment to quality were instrumental in bringing this project to its successful completion.
