Pacific Radiology Great King Street

We completed an extensive fitout over levels 4 and 5 of Pacific Radiology’s flagship Dunedin clinic. The facility delivers state-of-the-art breast imaging, MRI, PET/CT, ultrasound and x-ray services, plus reception, office and staff areas.

We arranged early access with the base build contractor of the newly constructed facility to ensure we could crane some of the medical imaging equipment in through roof access hatches, precisely executing the lifts of the highly sensitive equipment.

With the imaging equipment requiring a completely level floor, a point cloud scan of the floor slab gave us a millimetre-perfect view of areas that needed extra attention. We also used digital tools extensively to coordinate the complex array of additional building services we needed to squeeze in to tight ceiling spaces and plant rooms. We federated the base build BIM model with our services subcontractors’ models, ensuring that every cable, pipe, penetration and seismic separation was accounted for. A site capture and model comparison platform gave the entire team, especially out-of-town consultants, an up-to-date view of the site, adding to the collaborative nature of the project.

Some of the more technical work included radiation shielding, which involved multiple layers of lead-lined plywood in walls and ceilings. These areas needed to be signed off by the client’s physicist before we could close them up.

The fitout stands out for the incredible standard of workmanship delivered by our dedicated team and carefully selected specialist subcontractors, and for the collaborative relationships we fostered with the client and consultants.
