Delivered with minimal impact on airport operations.

A pressing need for more bathroom space in the domestic lounge saw our Projects & Interiors team return to Queenstown Airport. We built a new male toilet block and dedicated parenting room in a former office space and refurbished the existing departure gate restrooms, switching them to female-only. Behind the scenes, we added a remote screening room and upgraded the breakroom for Aviation Security.

Work started after the final flights had departed each evening at around 9pm and ran until we handed over to Aviation Security at 4am. A careful sweep of the area was especially important when we were excavating a new drainage connection right through the lounge floor, with the area needing to be safely covered up and cleared by AvSec as ‘sterile’ before the first flights of the day could be processed. Carefully considered staging and hoardings minimised the site footprint during the day, with frequent revisions as we uncovered some unexpected complexities in the ceiling voids.

Our site team kept waste to landfill down to a minimum by carefully removing existing fixtures and fittings to be stored by the client for reuse. We diverted the old insulation, internal doors and studwork to our Resource Recovery Centre, where they were soon snapped up at a community open day.
