From a dilapidated eyesore to the jewel in Lyall Bay’s crown, the Spruce Goose was transformed from an old relocated airport terminal building into an eye-catching new café.

“The end result is an exceptionally constructed and successfully repurposed building, that has become an extremely popular destination.”
NZ Commercial Project Award judges

The interior has a spacious open feel, with panoramic windows and expansive decks on both levels, giving exceptional views of the ocean. The funky retro-style fitout features a number of re-used materials.

Despite the challenging location, just 10 metres from the shoreline in Lyall Bay and exposed to the full force of Wellington’s southerly winds, the team has produced a beautiful, rejuvenated building.
