First stage of enabling works for the new ED.

We transformed an empty level of the Clinical Services Block into 1,800sqm of office space, meeting areas and breakout rooms in the first part of an initiative to accommodate staff displaced by a forthcoming project to build a new Emergency Department at Wellington Regional Hospital.

We resolved undulating floor levels by cutting out some of the original floor levelling compound and connecting bottom plates directly to the concrete slab. This meant there was not as much floor levelling required, ensuring that the project could be completed to the tight seven-month deadline.

Level 11 is sandwiched between two floors of offices. Our team were careful to be respectful of their need for a peaceful work environment, often working out of hours to avoid disruption. We also planned deliveries carefully to ensure that the lift, stairs and lobbies didn’t get too congested for other building users.

Staff progressively moved in from all over the hospital campus as we finished areas. Our team carefully coordinated work around the hospital staff as the entire floor moved from being a busy building site to a busy office.

With the fitout completed right on time, we moved on to start clinical and office fitouts both on another level of the Clinical Services Block and in the Grace Neill Block, with each project bringing Wellington closer to a brand-new Emergency Department.
