Scots College Gateway programme
The team delivering Wellington’s new electric bus depot recently joined staff and students from Scots College for a morning tea to celebrate the successful completion of an 11-week Gateway programme.
What began as a conversation about putting our Whakatupu Ā Mua work experience programme into practice quickly grew into an opportunity to formalise the experience, enabling students to work towards NZQA credits through BCITO’s Gateway programme while developing practical, industry-relevant skills. Over the 11 weeks, the students have joined the team on site every Friday, gaining firsthand experience of life in construction.
Teamwork makes the dream work, and our subcontractor partners Seven Electrical and Plimmer Plumbing have played a key role in giving students interested in building services the chance to get hands-on experience alongside industry professionals. A fantastic example of what can be achieved when industry and education work together to create pathways for the next generation!
