Meet Hayley
In honour of Women in Construction Week – meet Senior Project Manager Hayley, who is currently delivering the Cromwell Memorial Hall & Events Centre project.
Hayley graduated in the UK with a degree in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. With graduate roles limited, she took a bid writing position just to get her foot in the door and then continued on to be a junior/assistant project manager.
From there, Hayley worked her way up, moved into consultancy with RLB in the UK, and eventually travelled to New Zealand. When she asked RLB who the best contractor in the country was, they said Naylor Love, and that’s where she chose to continue her career.
For Hayley, the enjoyment of construction has always been the process of bringing a team together to deliver something functional and lasting for the community.
Every project is different. I enjoy the variety of people, the problem‑solving, the collaboration, and being able to look at a completed building and know I played a part in making it happen.
Hayley says her experience has been challenging at times but always rewarding, and she’s grateful for the people who backed her along the way. Her advice for women considering a career in construction?
Do it, but do it your way. There’s no single mould you need to fit.
