Environmentally sustainable design and construction involves buildings being designed and built with sustainable materials appropriate to the location, and the finished buildings being efficient to run and pleasant to occupy. It also extends to Whole of Life considerations: ensuring that the environmental impact of the building in the longer term is considered from the design stage, including maintenance, energy efficiency, durability, resource use, waste management and building siting.
Successful environmentally sustainable design and construction involves close cooperation between the client, designers, consultants and contractor at all stages of the project. Site teams in particular need to continually challenge themselves to both use resources in the most sustainable way possible and to protect the adjacent environment as they build, including controlling the impact of building works on sensitive live environments.
Naylor Love Construction are proud of our portfolio of environmentally sustainable “green” buildings around New Zealand. We are fully engaged in sustainable thinking through design and construction, and enjoy the close collaboration and opportunities for innovation inherent in these projects.
Another aspect of our environmental work is championing the New Zealand Green Building Council’s Green Star rating system for commercial buildings. Naylor Love, an active member of the Green Building Council since 2007, has a solid understanding and skill base for environmentally sustainable design and construction, with involvement in several Green Star pilot projects in both education and commercial sectors.
Our nationwide team of Green Star Accredited Processionals and Green Star Practitioners have the expertise and experience to successfully deliver your Green Star building project.
At Naylor Love Construction we take a proactive approach to our environmental responsibilities both on site and in the office. Our goal is to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment. Each of our regional divisions has a Green Team, whose focus it to improve our environmental systems and processes, including:
- Waste & Recycling (reduce, re-use, recycle, upcycle)
- Energy Management (reduce fuel, power, water, emissions)
- Client, Subcontractor and Team Engagement
- Product Stewardship
One or our best-known Green Team initiatives is offering to plant a tree for our client at the project handover. Some other successful Green Team initiatives include active monitoring and reduction of fuel and power consumption, environmental training and seminars, waste reduction and recycling projects, and encouraging staff to take part in community environmental projects such as beach clean-ups.
