Design & Build capability in an extreme alpine environment.
Naylor Love delivered a new maintenance facility at The Remarkables Ski Area, the first of two projects we completed over the off-season in 2025-26. The building has a three-bay workshop with roller doors, ground-floor storage rooms and washroom, a mezzanine with staff facilities and storage, and a roof structure engineered to carry vehicle parking.
Delivered under a Design & Build model on a remote, high-altitude site with extreme weather exposure, the building had to be operational ahead of the winter ski season. To suit the alpine location and constrained access road, the design was made as modular as possible. Structural steel, Kingspan panels and metalwork, including handrails and balustrades, were prefabricated offsite, with steel lengths and wall panels kept as light as possible and under 12 metres long so they could be transported up the access road on flat-deck trucks.
Contaminated ground required additional excavation and put foundation construction two weeks behind. Our team doubled crews and hours to recover the programme, condensing roughly three weeks of work into a week and a half.
A rigorous health and safety plan managed the risk environment, including work at height, difficult access, extreme weather and altitude, with high winds, snow, ice and freezing conditions. Warm gear and facilities were provided for workers.
The finished facility gives NZSki a robust maintenance base purpose-built for the demands of an alpine environment, reflecting close coordination between our in-house engineering team and the design and services teams.
