    Naylor Love adopts its first Waste Management Policy, recognising our responsibility to ensure our activities demonstrate social and environmental responsibility and committing to implementing waste management practices at our offices and construction sites.

  • 2008

    Annie Day, a Naylor Love Auckland Project Manager and later our first Environmental Manager, became the company’s first Green Star Accredited Professional. Annie was part of the group that developed the first Green Star New Zealand Education Building Rating Tool.

  • 2008

    Naylor Love builds New Zealand’s first Green Star rated school, Snells Beach School in Warkworth. Our second Green Star school, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Kotuku Ranui, followed in 2010.

    Naylor Love adopts its first Environmental Policy, committing to minimising the impact of our activities on the environment.

  • 2015

    Devonport Library, one of our early engineered timber projects, is awarded a merit in the Green Building Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards.

  • 2018

    Site-specific Environmental Management Plan required on all projects.

  • 2018

    Te Pā Tauira/Otago Polytechnic Student Village, a project completed following the principles of the Living Building Challenge, is awarded excellence in the Green Building Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards.

    Naylor Love receives ISO 14001 Environment certification and ISO 45001 Health & Safety certification for our HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) management system.

    Naylor Love joins the Climate Leaders Coalition, signing the 2019 pledge and committing to reducing our carbon footprint in line with the aim of keeping global warming to less than 1.5 degrees. To achieve this, we will reduce our emissions 25% by 2025 and 46% by 2030. Check out our progress!

    The first of our new hybrid vehicles arrived! Part of our agreed strategy to reduce our carbon footprint was to electrify our fleet, and we were pleased to see the first of a number of Rav4 Hybrids arrive to kick off the replacement of our twin cab utes.

    First of our all-electric vehicles hits the road, a pool car for our Christchurch office.

    We offered free access to groundbreaking building carbon calculator. The calculator was developed in 2019 as a result of a Naylor Love-commissioned research project looking at a typical six-storey commercial building. The calculator showed that an engineered timber structure reduced carbon emissions by up to 90 percent.

    Naylor Love became the first contractor in New Zealand to roll out standardised waste signage on our sites and in our offices using WasteMINZ’s recycling symbols and colours.

    We were delighted to receive a Highly Commended in the Community Collaboration category at the 2021 Tāmaki Makaurau Zero Waste Awards! The award recognised our team’s innovative community partnerships and initiatives to tackle construction waste, including our timber pack covers.

    Dedicated Environmental Managers appointed in every Naylor Love region.

  • 2022

    Site-specific Waste Management Plan required for every project, waste partnership lists introduced in each region. Minimum 70% waste diversion rate (by weight) established.

    Resource Sorter – Construction course launched, giving workers the tools they need to reduce construction waste to landfill by diverting it to be reused/recycled and talks about our actions to avoid waste altogether. Graduates earn credits at Level 2 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).

    Countdown Richmond, the first 5 Green Star Design and As-Built supermarket to open in New Zealand, is awarded a merit in the Green Building Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards.

    Our Auckland team won the Highly Commended Award in the Supreme category at the Construction Sector Accord Beacons Awards for our case study on the waste reduction pilot at our AUT A1 project, where we diverted over 90% of waste away from landfill.

    Naylor Love projects win three excellences in the Sustainable Building Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards for AgResearch Tuhiraki, 3 Te Kehu Way and Te Whare Whakatere – Ashburton Library & Civic Centre.

    3 Te Kehu Way, an office block we built for Kiwi Property at Sylvia Park, was awarded New Zealand’s first 6 Green Star Design & As Built NZv1.0 Certified Built Rating.

    Countdown Richmond in Nelson achieved a 5 Green Star Design & As Built NZv1.0 Certified Built Rating, becoming New Zealand’s first Green Star-accredited supermarket.

    Appointment of Environmental & Sustainability Manager Emma Foulkes, ensuring that sustainability continues to have a strong advocate on our National Leadership Team and strengthening delivery across projects and regions.

    AUT Tukutuku achieves Excellence in the Resene Sustainable Building Property Award category at the Property Council New Zealand Property Industry Awards.

    22 Kipling Avenue achieves a 5 Green Star Design & As Built rating, making it New Zealand’s first 5 Star Green Star certified private hospital under the NZGBC Design & As Built v1.0 tool.
