Otaihanga Zero Waste partnership
On Te Ara Whetū, the new library hub for Waikanae, we’ve been exploring new ways to reduce waste and strengthen local capability, partnering with Otaihanga Zero Waste to do just that.
This marks the first time they’ve worked alongside a commercial construction site, and the partnership is operating as a test to support their ability to scale up and to help improve the local market when it comes to waste diversion.
Through working together, they have helped us divert materials that didn’t previously have avenues for diversion, including certain types of treated timber, form ply and piping. It’s also opened up more opportunities to think creatively about reuse.
