Environmental Team profiles: Steph
Introducing our Waikato / Bay of Plenty Environmental Manager, Steph.
At Naylor Love, sustainability is driven by passionate people. We’re pleased to introduce Waikato/Bay of Plenty Environmental Manager Stephanie Mayer, who hates seeing materials go to waste.
Steph joined us as Document Controller on the Tauhara geothermal power station project. Having worked on a geothermal build before, she knew what was coming: massive amounts of packaging protecting the imported machinery. She contacted the overseas manufacturers to confirm the quantities, then worked with local companies to put systems in place to divert tonnes of polystyrene and soft plastic packaging away from landfill.
This was a big challenge at a time when there was limited recycling infrastructure in Taupō but has helped to build longstanding relationships with partners such as saveBOARD and EXPOL NZ.
Steph went on to lead waste diversion at Tauhara before taking on the newly established regional Environmental Manager role. Her approach is simple: build strong partnerships, challenge the status quo, and keep looking for better ways to do things. Whether she’s supporting project teams on site, working with subcontractors or connecting with industry, councils and community networks, Steph brings energy and persistence to every opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of construction.
For Steph, it’s not just about managing waste – it’s about rethinking it, reducing it, and ultimately creating a construction industry that values every resource.
